Uruguay 2007 ~ Second Trip Itinerary

Day 1 (Nov 24)

Arrive and meet up with the first group to have an afternoon BBQ and get a chance to see what everyone collected on the first trip.   Yet more food!  We will spend the night in Salinas.

Day 2 (Nov 25)

In the morning we will drive to Centurion in Cerro Lrago taking in a lot of site seeing of the land as we drive. Centurion is on the border with Brazil featuring the Rio Yaguarón. The trip from Salinas to Centurion direct is 465 km. We should arrive around 16:30 and will set up camp.  (This region of the country has little to no population whatsoever)  While we are camping here we have a local family who will be arranging and helping us with all the cooking of the food, we will be camping on their land.

Day 3 (Nov 26)

We will collect around Centurion including the following locations of Rio Yaguaron, Arroyo Ceibalito, Arroyo Yerbalito, Cañada del Vigia, etc.  That night we will once again camp here on the families land.

Day 4 (Nov 27)

We will continue to collect the region, being one of the most remote and spectacular for Uruguay.  Once again we will camp this evening here.

Day 5 (Nov 28)

Early after breakfast, we will drive back to the town pf Melo and from Melo we take road 26 west to Ansina.  Ansina is 160 km from Melo and along the way  we will stop a few times to collect on the road.  There are a lot of streams on this road, among them being the big Rio Negro, Arroyo Caraguatá, etc.  We will arrive late to Ansina and there we stay for the night.  Ansina is a small town....with no hotel there....but we will stay with an old couple who rents rooms and prepare food for us.  The great thing though is that the rooms we rent are only 70 meters from the Rio Tacuarembo!!  Easy to collect and very easy to change water!!

Day 6 (Nov 29)

We will collect in Ansina region primarily  the Rio Tacuarembó, a large river of the region. We will spend the night again in Ansina.

Day 7 (Nov 30)

We will drive back to Salinas, 460 km.  If we have time along the way we will do a stop in Durazno (200 klms. from Salinas) and collect in Rio Yi.  We will arrive back into Salinas late that evening and spend the night here.

Day 8 (Dec 1)

Extra day / or collect / one day trip?  This day is being left open to decide by the group what it wants to do collectively.

Day 9 (Dec 2)

We will travel into Montevideo to their large market area.  A chance to obtain some souvenirs and see one of South America’s most beautiful large cities.

Day 10 (Dec 3)

Another Extra day / or collect / or sightseeing in Maldonado’s coast (Atlantic Ocean) to be decided by the group.

Day 11 (Dec 4)

Preparation of the fish for departure and rest and relaxing… odds are very good yet even more food when you think you can not handle anymore!

* This trip currently features 2 "extra days" for more Montevideo, more collecting, Maldonado coast....etc Also allows for a make up day in the event of a rainout on any of the days.  (this time of year however is not traditionally a rainy season)  Once the final group is confirmed we will poll its members what they want to see and do the most.
